Foundation

This term Foundation students have been practising using Ctrl, Alt & Delete to access the logon page for our school system. They have also been learning to logon to the school system as well as practising login to Reading Eggs and Mathletics. So that your child is confident in completing these tasks, I ask that you work with them by showing them where the keys Ctrl, Alt & Delete are, so they are able to do this independently. I also ask that parents use the user name and teach the students how to type their passwords.

Grade 1

I encourage grade 1 parents to continue working with their child to learn user names and passwords for Mathletics. The Grade 1’s have spent time creating folders to save and retrieve their work. At home you could have your child create a word document and type short sentences which they can save and reopen to add more information.

Grade 2

It has been great to see the work many of the Grade 2 students put into their Information Communication Technology this term. They have spent time locating information and images from Google which they were able to copy and save into a document. It would be great to have them continue to consolidate these skills, so I would suggest some practise at home.

Grade 3 and 4

During Term 1, Grade 3 and 4’s students spent weeks 1-3 practising simple word processing skills. In the remaining weeks, the students learnt how to use the school library system to locate where books and information can be found in our library. (You can access this from home also by searching Sirius College logins and select the destiny link (the tree)). Then they were asked to locate images and information using the search engine Google. In the last two weeks, we have been exploring if we can trust the internet?

To consolidate their learning, ask them what they have learnt, or even ask them to teach you what they have learnt.

Grade 5

Term 1 has seen the Grade five research, plan and create a PowerPoint quiz/games for the Grade Ones which they are presenting to their buddies on Tuesday. In the final stage, grade fives have created PowerPoint presentations where they are creating textboxes which they have hyperlinked between different slides within their file. I would like to share two PowerPoint presentations which are prepared by Sibel Uguz and Mahnoor Fayyaz in pdf format.

Grade 6

In this term grades 6’s have explored a number of topics, from researching what computer hardware is, and the different hardware we use. What interfaces are? We also looked at locating data on certain topics as well as touching on binary numbers.

I would just like to take this time to remind grade 6’s that they need to take responsibility for their learning and complete tasks that are being set. I also want them to make sure if they are working with others that everyone in the group does the work, so someone else is not getting marks for all your hard work, when they don’t do any.

In the last week, a number of students and I are working on a way to make our lessons more interactive and easy to share work and tasks.
